Eleven arrested in PE for drug dealing

Port Elizabeth police have arrested at least 11 suspects on charges of drug dealing during crackdowns in the city's northern Areas this week.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, says the latest arrests were made on Wednesday when three people, including a 76-year-old man, were arrested in Bloemendal for drug possession.

"A total of 1607 mandrax tablets, 50 grams of cocaine and 297 grams of tik were also seized. The estimated street value of the drugs is R 225 000.  The suspects are expected to appear in court soon," Naidu said.

She said two suspects were also arrested during a raid on another house in Virgo Street in Gelvandale where police confiscated tik, dagga, cash, and cell phones.

Naidu said earlier this week six suspects were also arrested by the members in separate incidents for drug-related offences after search warrants were executed at houses in Malabar and Missionvale.

She said Acting Mount Road Cluster Commander, Brigadier Andrew Louw has re-iterated that "these multi-disciplinary operations will continue until we identify and cripple these drug dens which are operating within our communities".
