East London police have arrested 14 people following a protest on the Ziphunzana by-pass at Duncan Village on Monday morning.
Police spokesperson, captain Stephen Marais, says residents blockaded the road with concrete blocks and other debris in what is believed to be a protest over the lack of service delivery.
Marais says those arrested face charges of public violence and are expected to appear in court on Monday.
The protest comes on the same day that the ANC in the Eastern Cape summoned all its councillors in the province to a meeting with the party's provincial executive committee.
ANC alliance partners are also expected to attend the session at the East London International Convention Centre.
"The purpose of the meeting is to address Key Challenges Facing Local Government in the province, state of service delivery, challenges caused by infighting amongst ANC Councillors in municipalities and the issues raised by the Auditor General in the outcomes of a recent Municipal audit," said ANC provincial secretary Lubabalo Mabuyane.
"The meeting will be addressed by the ANC Provincial Chairperson, Pumulo Masualle, leaders of Cosatu, SACP with Local Government and Traditional Affairs MEC, Mlibo Qoboshiyane tabling a report detailing Key Challenges Facing Local Government in the province," he said.
