Police detectives in Cookhouse are on the hunt for a 30-year-old suspect who assaulted a 62-year-old woman before stealing 12 full bottles of beer from her residence in Gugulethu street in the town at around 3 pm on Wednesday.
Captain Bradley Rawlinson says the complainant caught the intruder in her house when she woke up from the sound of glass bottles moving around.
She tried to stop him, but as the suspect fled from the house he pushed the elderly complaint, causing her to fall and fracture her left leg.
The woman was able to call her neighbours for help and was then taken to Andries Vosloo hospital in Somerset East for further treatment.
Captain Rawlinson says the suspect is known to the complainant and that a case of house robbery was opened for further investigation.
