Eastern Cape police are investigating a case of attempted murder after a 72-year-old man survived being shot during a shoot-out with unknown men on his smallholding outside Hankey on Wednesday night.
Sergeant Majola Nkohli says the elderly complainant was inside his smallholding near the R330 outside Hankey around 7 pm when he heard his dogs barking and went outside to investigate.
As he stepped out of the kitchen door an unknown number of suspects starting shooting at him.
Sergeant Nkohli says one of the bullets struck him in his lower leg but he managed to return fire, scaring off his attackers who fled the scene.
At this stage, it is unknown whether any of the suspects were injured during the incident.
The victim is recovering in hospital and police are investigating a case of attempted murder.
