Graaff-Reinet police are investigating a case of murder after a 67-year-old woman was found dead in her home at Somerset East.
Warrant Officer Norman Holtzhauzen says the woman's body was found lying in a pool of blood by her grand-daughter on Tuesday afternoon.
Holtzhauzen says the woman was found partially covered with floor mats with a wound to the back of her head.
Holtzhauzen says police found a blood stained spade on the premises which they believe to be the murder weapon.
He added that the key to the security gate was missing and there was no sign of forced entry.
No arrests have yet been made.
