The Provincial Secretary of the ANC, Oscar Mabuyane issued a statement following an article which appeared on News 24 on Tuesday.
The article states that Nelson Mandela Bay Mayor Danny Jordaan has hired top lawyers to defend himself in the FIFA Bribery investigation in the US.
Jordaan reacted angrily when asked by ENCA on Wednesday about the report. After being interviewed on ENCA after casting his vote, a visibly upset Jordaan went back to interrupt the reporter's crossing to say there's no case against any South African official.
Here is the full statement from the ANC
The ANC is not surprised by the suspicious story published by the Naspers owned News 24 website making up stories and false claims about our Nelson Mandela Bay Metro mayoral candidate, Cde Danny Jordaan the night before the elections.
Their text lacks credibility because it is decorated with old unsubstantiated claims recycled by the news website owned by a media firm that supported apartheid on the eve of the election. We are not surprised that this news website, probably inspired by their apartheid DNA, decides to publish this flimsy text masquerading as an exclusive story on the even of an election where Cde Danny Jordaan is contesting Mayorship. Voters must ignore this because Cde Danny is not charged by anyone and he is not under any investigation.
We must never forget that Naspers supported apartheid government, the same people that Cde Danny dedicated his life fighting against for the liberation of many. Naspers was an important part of the apartheid propaganda that supported apartheid government and its inhumane policies and voters must ignore their attempt to campaign for the DA. We must ignore their latest attempt of tarnishing the image of our Comrade on the eve of the election.
