Elderly victim in St Francis bay house robbery identified

Police have identified the elderly man who died during a house robbery in St Francis Bay on Thursday.

Police spokesperson Captain Gerda Swart says he was identified as the 76-year-old Duncan Lethbridge.

Lethbridge and his 71-year-old wife were tied up in their home in Sardinia Road shortly after the housekeeper was accosted by the armed suspects.

Swart says the intruders tied up all three victims before ransacking the house.

The suspects also assaulted the couple and demanded the keys to the safe.

The wife was forced to unlock the safe but it is not yet known what was stolen.

The housekeeper managed to alert the neighbours a few hours later who immediately called the ambulance services and the police.

Lethbridge's body was found in the living room where he was declared dead by paramedics.

His severely traumatized wife was taken to hospital.

The cause of death is still unknown and an autopsy will be done to determine the exact cause.

Police have launched a manhunt for the two suspects who are still at large.
