Police in St Francis Bay are investigating a case of attempted murder and housebreaking following an assault of an elderly man.
Police Warrant Officer Marianette Olivier says the incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday morning in Majorka street in St Francis Bay.
Olivier says the suspect was seen by the complainant trying to open the safe.
She says the man in his sixties was then confronted by the suspect who stabbed him in the face with a knife.
The suspect is still at large and the victim has been admitted to hospital in Port Elizabeth in a serious but stable condition.
