After months of unhappiness, the Oudtshoorn municipality has finally agreed to approve its budget for the coming year.
Since March the municipality has been rocked by a scandal in which an attempt was allegedly made to overthrow Mayor Gordon April, frequent walkouts by DA and Cope councillors following claims that the ANC was politicising council meetings and general disagreement on most aspects of the budget.
However April has now informed Western Cape Local Government MEC Anton Bredell that the council will adopt the "unilaterally" approved on March 27 until adjustments are voted for after the August 7 by-elections.
"All legislative requirements will be observed and the MEC will be provided with timeous reports in line with Oudtshoorn's MFMA compliance status,'' he said.
''I now regard the flatuous flutter created by a rogue council on May 31 as handled, and I will train my energy on running Oudtshoorn with renewed commitment.''
