Police in the Eastern Cape have arrested one of three suspects who assaulted and robbed two elderly people in Addo.
Police Spokesperson Sergeant Majola Nkohli says the robbery took place at a smallholding where an 88-year-old woman is living with her 86-year-old brother.
He says the brother woke up shortly after midnight and saw three men standing over him. One of them had a firearm and assaulted him before demanding money and the keys to the safe.
The men then went to the sister's room where she was tied up.
Nkohli says they could not find any money in the house but they did manage to get their hands on a rifle and a shotgun.
He says the men also stole two television sets.
Police are not sure at this stage whether or not the men fled on foot or in a vehicle, but this will form part of the investigation.
Nkohli confirmed one arrest but could not yet provide Algoa FM news with the details.
