Elderly residents evacuated from J'Bay retirement village

Eighty residents of a Retirement Village in Jeffreys Bay were evacuated and four people,  including a staff member,  were rushed to hospital in Humansdorp for treatment for  smoke inhalation on Wednesday morning. 

Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Basil Seekooi, says a fire started out in the linen room at the village at about one-thirty on Wednesday morning. 

It is believed that an electrical short started the fire. 

Seekoei says Jeffreys Bay Police and fire department members, and local security agencies, were dispatched to the scene to assist in the evacuation of the elderly residents.
