Elderly PE woman beaten with hammer in her home


Port Elizabeth police are searching for three men who severely assaulted an 86-year-old woman in her home in Kamma Park on Monday.

Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer, Alwin Labans, said a neighbour saw three men jump over a wall to the woman's house and alerted police.

He said the assailants, who assaulted the woman with a hammer, fled the scene but dropped a bag filled with stolen goods.

Labans said the woman was admitted to hospital with serious injuries.

Meanwhile, Mossel Bay police are searching for a man after a woman was allegedly abducted from a local mall.

Police said the woman had accepted a lift from a man at the mall but he drove off in another direction in his Ford Bantam bakkie with Eastern Cape registration plates.

It is alleged that the driver had threatened the woman with a knife and tried to rape her.

Police said the woman managed to escape from the vehicle which was last seen on the Mandjiesdrif gravel road the near the R328.

The woman was admitted to hospital for treatment to the injuries she sustained during the ordeal.
