Port Elizabeth police have arrested a 76-year-old woman for illegally importing seahorses with an estimated value of R100 000.
Police found 132 seahorses in a container in Deal Party on Tuesday.
Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Dumile Gwavu, says the seahorses were found in plastic sauce bottle covers, jars of preserved vegetables and preserved ginger, and in Chinese steam
baskets.
He says the woman also faces a charge of contravening the SA National Environmental Management Act.
