An elderly farmer was shot and killed on his farm in the Aberdeen district in the Karoo on Thursday night.
Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Wessel Cronjé says although the 75-year old was shot six times, he could reach a phone to call his neighbour for help.
He says the farmer died shortly afterwards in his house.
Cronjé says at least one suspect fled the scene in the man's bakkie, and was spotted by one of the farmers in the area.
He gave chase, and the suspect later pulled over, and fled on foot.
Cronjé says police recovered the bakkie, and seized a 9mm pistol.
The name of the victim has not yet been released.
No arrests have yet been made.
