An elderly man was rescued by the police's air wing from a mountain near Uitenhage on Saturday, after suffering a stroke on Friday evening.
Capt Johan Rheeder says the 70-year old Despatch man decided to climb the mountain with another man on Friday afternoon, and when they reached the top, he suffered a stroke.
He says the man's friend tried to carry him down the mountain, but could not manage. He then left the ill man in bush, and went down the mountain to look for help.
Rheeder says they later could not find the exact location of the elderly man, and the police deployed the dog-unit to search for him on saturday morning.
However, the dog-unit was also unsuccesful to locate the man, and called for the police helicopter.
Rheeder says the man was later found by the helicopter, and he was taken to the Uitenhage hospital in a stable condition.
