Nelson Mandela Bay police are appealing to the community to assist police in finding those responsible for the murder of an 89-year-old woman in West End on Saturday morning.
District Commissioner, Major-General Vuyisile Ncata made the appeal after the body of Sophie Erasmus was discovered in her St Cyprian Street home at around 9 AM.
Police said her hands were tied behind her back and she had been “bludgeoned on her head and face with a blunt object”.
Spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said there was no forced entry to the house.
“The only item suspected to have been taken, is her handbag. Police suspect that the possible motive for the attack may be robbery,” she said.
Police are appealing to anyone with any information that could assist the investigation to contact Detective Sergeant Ralton Tarentaal at SAPS Bethelsdorp on 064 119 4437 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or the nearest police station.
