Police at Berlin near King William's Town are investigating a case of attempted murder after a taxi driver was shot twice in the upper body near the town.
Captain Mluleki Mbi says the 61-year-old driver is believed to have been shot by a male commuter on Tuesday, in what appeared to be a robbery.
The taxi, which was full of passengers, was travelling from Mdantsane to Berlin.
Mbi says the suspect demanded money from the driver and shot him when he said he had none to give.
No commuters were injured.
The driver is recovering in the Cecilia Makiwane Hospital in Mdantsane.
