East London police report that three suspects were arrested on Monday morning for being in possession of unlicensed firearms in Reeston.
Police Captain Mluleki Mbi says that on seeing the police, the suspects fled on foot.
The police gave chase.
One suspect turned and pointed a firearm in the direction of the police.
Mbi says police opened fire and wounded the man in the hand.
Three suspects aged 20 and 21 were arrested and will appear in the East London magistrate's court soon.
A 9 millimetre pistol and a hand gun were recovered from the suspects.
