Garbage continued to pile up on the streets of East London on Wednesday on day four of a municipal worker's strike.
Protesting municipal workers also set fire to pile of garbage in several parts of the East London CBD.
A fire was also started behind East London City Hall and was extinguished by metro fire fighters while earlier in the day police used water cannon and rubber bullets to disperse the protesters.
Buffalo City Metro Mayor Zukiswa Ncitha said demands of a 14th cheque made by Samwu members was out of the municipality's hands.
Ncitha said Samwu members should take their demands to the SA Local Goverment Association.
She said the Metro does not discuss wage issues as they are represented by SALGA
