A case of child abandonment being investigated by East London police could change, depending on the findings of a post mortem that will be conducted on a little baby girl who was found in a gutter in Quigney on Thursday morning.
The little girl died in Frere Hospital after paramedics from Dynamic Emergency Medical Services spent 45 minutes trying to resuscitate the child who was found wrapped in plastic.
Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Hazel Mqala, says the case is being investigated by the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.
She says until the post mortem investigation confirms the cause of death, the current charge cannot be amended.
Meanwhile, she says the search for the child's mother is still continuing.
