The East London Magistrates Court was filled to capacity on Wednesday for the court appearance of the 50-year-old man accused of killing his girlfriend in Amalinda.
Ayanda Matika was arrested in Cape Town in March in connection with the murder of 37-year-old Busisiwe Ngwadla whose body was discovered with multiple stab wounds in her flat.
Magistrate Roschelle Sam postponed the case to 2 July, awaiting instruction from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Matika will remain in custody until then.
A group of ANC Women's League members protested outside the court saying Matika should not get bail.
