An East London businessman has appeared in court on a charge of fraud after being arrested on Thursday by the Hawks.
Hawks provincial spokesperson, Captain Anelisa Feni, said that 67-year-old Mxolisi Klaas is accued of fraudulently selling vehicle roadworthy certificates to members of the public, without having tested the vehicles.
She said that Klaas allegedly demanded almost R800 for his services.
Feni said that the court granted Klass R1000 bail and his next court appearance will be on 26 June 2017.
She said the head of the Hawks in the Eastern Cape lauded Klaas’ arrest saying that “it not surprising why every day we have accidents in our public roads”.
