Port Elizabeth police are investigating a case of murder after a policeman was shot and killed in Veeplaas in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu says police were alerted to a vehicle parked in an open space at the bottom of Koyana Road.
She says upon investigation, it was found that it was an unmarked police vehicle, and the driver, a police detective, was found in the driver's seat with gunshot wounds.
Naidu says 49-year-old Warrant Officer Wellbeloved Mtshawu was on duty at the time.
He was attached to the Motherwell Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.
Naidu says at this stage the circumstances surrounding his death are unknown and police are investigating.
