An East London man on holiday in Durban has died at Battery Beach after suffering a suspected heart attack.
Netcare 911 said paramedics responded to the call on Wednesday after the man had collapsed on the beach after coming out of the water.
Spokesperson, Chris Botha, said “reports from the scene indicate that the holidaymaker from East London was swimming in the surf for a while, he was walking out the surf when he grabbed his chest and collapsed.”
“Observant Lifeguards immediately ran to his assistance and after pulling him clear of the water they started CPR,” Botha said.
“The Netcare 911 advanced Life Support paramedic and his team placed the man on a ventilator and started with advanced cardiac life support,” he said.
“After working fervently as a team with the Lifeguards for almost an hour, the man tragically was declared dead on the beach,” Both said.
The man’s name has not yet been released.
