Police in East London are investigating a case of stock theft after several cows were found slaughtered on a gravel road near a farm at Silverdale.
Spokesperson Captain Hazel Mqala says it is alleged that workers arrived on the farm to milk the cows at about 3 am when they noticed that several cows were missing.
She says the owner, his daughter and one of the workers then went looking for them and found them all slaughtered on a nearby gravel road.
Mqala says the suspects are not known and a case of stock theft is under investigation.
