EL cop to be honoured over 2008 rescue


An East London policemen who plumbed the depths of the city's sewer system to rescue a four year old boy will be honoured for his bravery.

While off-duty Warrant Officer Pierre Marx of East London's K-9 unit went to the rescue of a four year old who had disappeared down a sewer in Buffalo Park Drive.

He managed to find the boy 350 metres down the sewer system and bring him to safety.

The incident happened in October 2008.

Eastern Cape police commissioner, lieutenant-general Celiwe Binta, will present warrant officer Marx with the Police Service Silver Cross for Bravery Award on Monday.
