Three men and a youth from Mdantsane in East London are spending their first weekend behind bars after being jailed for murder and robbery.
Four accused, Siyabonga Melitafa(23) was sentenced to life in imprisonment and 15 years, Lwandile Siqoko (26) was sentenced to life imprisonment and 15 years while Sipho Nkonyana(20) was sentenced to life imprisonment and 15 years.
Khanyisa Mangena(17) was sentenced to 25 years imprisonment.
The four were convicted for robbing and killing security guard, Mzingisi Zaphi, in Mdantsane in 2011.
Police said the father of two and family breadwinner was on his way home when he was attacked.
Mdantsane station commander, brigadier Stanly Bennett, welcomed the sentences imposed on the men on Friday.
He was also full of praise for the work done by police investigator, constable Lusando Nkatazo.
"Constable Lusanda Nkatazo, is one of the hard working members in my station and I am very proud of him. It is not an easy task to secure a life sentence in court as an investigating officer, it is even worse to achieve three(03) life sentences in one case. Overall he has secured the most convictions in the whole Province of the Eastern Cape this year," he said.
