Eight killed in Eastern Cape road accidents

It was a deadly weekend on Eastern Cape roads, with no less than 8 fatalities reported.

Provincial traffic spokesperson, Charles Bramwell says in the latest accident on Sunday morning, a man was killed instantly when his vehicle hit a tree on the R-72 near Kidd's Beach.

He says it's alledged  that an Audi traveling towards East London, hit a Toyota Avanza from behind, causing the Avanza to loose control and left the road to the right side - hitting a tree and killing the driver instantly.

The Audi also lost control and veered of the road to the left side, seriously injuring the driver.

In other accidents over the weekend,  two men and three women were killed in a head-on collision between a taxi and an SUV on the N-2 near Kokstad on Saturday.

Bramwell says the driver of a Toyota Fortuner died in hospital, after the vehicle overturned near Dutywa on Friday evening, while one person was killed on the R-58 between Barkley-East and Elliot on Friday, when a Toyota Quantum from Gauteng overturned.
