Eight people were killed in an head-on collision Tuesday night on the R-61 between Ngcobo and Cofinvaba in the Eastern Cape.
The Eastern Cape Transport Department said that the accident was between a car and a double-cab bakkie about three kilometres outside Ngcobo.
According to a Department statement a bakkie carrying 14 people went out of control on a curve and collided with an oncoming vehicle killing six people on the spot.
"Two others died en route to hospital while five people sustained serious injuries and have been taken to hospital," the Department said.
Eastern Cape Transport MEC, Weziwe Tikana, has pleaded with motorists to stay alert on the road at all times and obey the rules of the road.
She's sent her condolences to the families of the victims.
