Education protest planned for Grahamstown

Representatives of school governing bodies from Port Elizabeth's northern areas will hold a picket protest outside the Grahamstown High Court on Thursday.

That's where the Legal Resource Centre is bringing an application for an order compelling the Department of Basic Education to implement the 2012 post provisioning and to declare the 2013 post establishment.

The spokesperson for the Northern Areas school governing body unit, Andrew Sauls, says more than 100 people are expected to take part in the protest.

"We want to say that we are not against governmental department but we are for quality learning and teaching and when we go there it is the parents component that want to demonstrate their entire involvement in this constructive engagement that we have done with the parents" Sauls said.

The Democratic Alliance says it will also hold a protest march in Grahamstown on Thursday in support of the court application.
