EDM turns to staff for help with financial turn-around strategy

The Eden District Municipality on the Garden Route has turned to its staff to help the municipality address mounting financial challenges.

The district municipality launched a competition last Friday where it asked its staff to come cost saving and revenue generating ideas that can be introduced across all departments.

The competition forms part of the municipality's turn-around strategy to improve Eden's financial position.

The chairperson of the Eden District Municipality's Savings Task Team, Xavier Jantjies, says the competition will run over three months with the best ideas in different categories being assessed, selected and implemented until the end of the financial year next June.

"As you perhaps know that we are struggling with our finances at the moment and this is a way of getting staff involved in seeing how we can save on our operating expenditure and how we can generate more income in order to compliment our budget," he said.

"So, the objective is to create or develop a savings culture in Eden (and) by starting with the savings competition we would eventually like to achieve that," he added.
