Two employees at Edgars in Greenacres Shopping Centre in Port Elizabeth were injured when their feet were crushed in an in-store escalator.
Dave Gardiner, of Guardmed Ambulance Services, says his paramedics were called to the store early on Wednesday morning.
He says his information is that two men were moving a cabinet down the escalator when the incident happened.
"When they got to the end there is a pole at the very end of the escalator that is embedded in the floor, and the cabinet obviously hit the pole and could not move, but the escalator was still moving and it crushed their feet. They were trapped and the fire department had to cut the pole away" he said
