Eden District Municipality prepares for Ebola

For the past four months Eden District Municipality has been putting prevention measures in place, should there be an outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus in the area.

The disease has already killed thousands of people in West Africa.

Garden Route correspondent Louise Karsten reports that that a contingency plan was recently discussed during a special board meeting.

Although people are generally uninformed about the Ebola virus, the head of Eden Community services, Clive Africa says they want to inform and train residents about the Ebola virus, so that it can be handled as best as possible should it spread in the Eden area.

A report on Eden's preventive measures and information programs for the public and the empowerment of their staff was discussed during a council meeting in October.

According to Africa, the Eden municipality receives guidance from the Department of Health and he said that the Eden Disaster Management is in contact with the Western Cape Disaster Management. Currently R32. 4 million has been made available nationally, should the Ebola virus break out in the country.
