The Deputy Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs, Rejoice Mabudafhasi, will officially hand over the R14m eco-parks in Mdantsane and Duncan village to the Buffalo City Metro on Friday morning.
The purpose of constructing eco-parks is to utilize open-space to prevent illegal dumping, creation of sports facilities and recreation for local communities.
The project has created work opportunities for 186 local people, and follows government's Expanded Public Works Programme, which advocates labour intensive methods to empower communities with employment.
