The Eastern Cape department of Local Government and Traditional Affairs says following the release of the recent municipal Audit outcomes, it reviewed its Operation Clean Audit support programme and other support to municipalities.
MEC, Mlibo Qoboshiyane says he welcomes the intervention of the ANC's Provincial Executive Council on the issue, because Councillors, as leaders in municipalities, have a duty to ensure compliance with laws, systems and controls.
He says his department reflected on the shortcomings, challenges and strengths of the programme and came up with an intensive care support for each municipality.
Municipalities to receive the Intensive Care Support include Camdeboo, Ikhwezi, Great Kei, Alfred Nzo District Municipality, Chris Hani District Municipality, Koukama, Baviaans and OR Tambo District Municipality.
