 An Eastern Cape woman has been killed in a car accident on the N1 near Kroonstad in the Free State.

The fifty eight year old Poppie Pretorius from Middelburg was on her way to Pretoria with four others to attend her daughter's graduation ceremony, when the accident happened on Thursday afternoon.

Police spokesperson, captain Harry Nagel says a truck with two trailers lost control, and collided with the car.

Pretorius died at the scene.

Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide.
