he 28-year-old woman who was arrested on Tuesday on a charge of kidnapping made another court appearance in Mdantsane in East London on Thursday.
The state alleges that the woman, Nomfuneko Thanyana, conned the child's 17-year-old mother at Cecilia Makiwane Hospital.
While the mother was waiting for an ambulance to go home after giving birth, Thanyana allegedly offered her R50 to buy baby formula at a store at the Highway taxi rank.
It is further alleged that Thanyana then stole the baby while the mother was inside the store.
She will be back in court again next Wednesday for a formal bail application.
