A 41-year-old Eastern Cape woman has been sentenced to 8 years imprisonment by the Port Elizabeth Commercial Crime's court for defrauding her former employer of 737-thousand rand.
Captain Anelisa Feni of the Hawks says Nokuthula Mpati worked as an Administration Clerk for a Port Elizabeth based cleaning company from 2007 until November 2016.
Part of her duties were to administer the payments of employees.
The company kept a record of its former employees and in December 2014, Mpati changed the bank details of over 50 former employees and replaced them with her personal banking details.
She then placed them back on the company's payroll and received the payments of these former employees from December 2014 until August 2015.
The company's auditors discovered these irregularities during August 2015 while conducting an audit.
