EC woman arrested following death of newborn baby

A young Eastern Cape woman has been arrested for the murder of her newborn baby boy.

Police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha, said the 20-year-old gave birth early on Tuesday morning at her home in Sikhobeni Village at Dutywa.

He said family members noticed that the child had upper-body injuries and was rushed to the Dutywa Health Centre where he was declared dead.

Manatha said that the mother was arrested later in the day and will appear in court on Thursday on a charge of murder.
