Four men were jailed in the Regional Court in Qonce (KWT) in the Eastern Cape for robbing a clothing truck back in 2015.
Warrant Officer Bonnie Nxumalo says the men were also convicted and sentenced on three counts of kidnapping.
She said Mbulelo Ntintili, Mike Mohamed, Siyanda Ngqam, and Lelethu Ntyinkala kidnapped and robbed the driver of the truck and his assistants after they had left a warehouse in East London to deliver goods in Cradock and Komani in October 2015.
They were forced at gunpoint into the boot of a vehicle before being dumped in a secluded area. The four then fled in the truck.
Nxumalo said the Hawks investigated the robbery and later arrested the four in Mdantsane where the stolen goods were recovered.
She said Ntintili, Mohamed, and Ngqame were sentenced on Friday to 10 years for robbery and three years on each count of kidnapping, while Ntyinkala received the same sentence on the kidnapping charges, but eight years’ imprisonment for robbery.
The sentences will run concurrently.
