The driver of a Volkswagen Polo is in police custody in Gqeberha for alleged drunk and negligent driving after he crashed into a police vehicle on Sunday morning before fleeing the scene of the accident.
Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the accident happened on the corners of Maku and Addo Road in NU2, Motherwell.
She says this is one of two reckless and negligent driving cases that were opened at the weekend where police vehicles were involved.
Colonel Naidu says the first accident happened shortly before midnight on Friday when a SAPS vehicle from Kwadwesi was involved in an accident with a Datsun Go on the corners of Addo Road and the M17.
She says in both accidents the police officers sustained slight injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment.
The Driver of the Polo is expected to appear in court soon.
