EC truck hijackers nabbed

File

East London police arrested four suspects who hijacked a courier vehicle in Duncan Village on Wednesday.

Police spokesperson, Captain Khaya Tonjeni, said a fifth suspect was still at large.

He said the drama began at around midday when five men hijacked the courier driver at gunpoint, taking the parcels and fleeing in a VW Polo.

Tonjeni said East London K9 members were on patrol in the area spotted the car and a chase ensued.

“They caught up with the vehicle at Croydon Street in Cambridge and arrested four suspects who were found in the possession of the goods taken from the courier company,” he said.

Police also seized two unlicensed firearms and ammunition and also confiscated the car.

Tonjeni said the suspects, aged between 26 and 31 will appear in the East London Magistrate's Court soon on charges of car hijacking, the possession of suspected stolen property and the possession of an unlicensed firearm and live ammunition.
