The Eastern Cape Transport Department says it will hold a Transport Infrastructure Investment Conference in July.
The announcement was made by Eastern Cape Transport MEC, Thandiswa Marawu during a departmental Strategic Planning Session yesterday.
Department spokesperson, Ncedo Kumbaca, says the reason for initiating the conference is because public transport matters are not necessarily regarded as the most pressing societal challenges, especially after the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
He says MEC Marawu believes the recent pronouncement of government infrastructure spending does not include the transport sector.
"The allocation for public transportation system of the Eastern Cape were not going to get that big share in the fiscals so that means we need to be innovative and with the pronouncement made by the President and the Premier of the province it is clear that in some of the strategy projects which was pronounced we need to work together with our strategy partners in the private sector so that we can be able to deliver those projects and help grow the economy of the province" Kumbaca said.
