EC Transport Department denies allegations of mal-administration in scholar transport programme

The Eastern Cape Department of Transport says it remains unfazed and unshaken by allegations of mal-administration in the province's scholar transport programme.

Department spokesperson, Ncedo Kumbaca says the programme was audited in the latest audit process by the Auditor-General and nothing untoward was picked up.

On Friday, United Democratic Movement leader, Bantu Holomisa, indicated that had asked the Public Protector to investigate the scholar transport programme.

Holomisa said in a brief statement that he had received information alleging maladministration within the Eastern Cape Department of Transport which administers the programme on behalf of the provincial Education Department.

The UDM leader said the documents in his possession pointed to alleged maladministration involving more than 15-million rand.

Kumbaca says the department will cooperate with any process, if the Public Protector’s Office decides to investigate.
