Rural Development and Land Reform Minister Gugile Nkwinti has announced that the construction of the proposed new N2 Wild Coast Toll Road is expected to start in September next year.
He was speaking at a public consultation meeting at Bizana in the Eastern Cape on Friday, in his capacity as the chairperson of the Presidential Infrastructure Coordinating Committee, which is tasked with overseeing strategic infrastructure projects.
Nkwinti said the process going forward over the next 13 months would include the relocation of communities who would have to make way for the highway.
He said that if court processes against the construction of the toll road persist, the project will start in 2017.
