The Eastern Cape is hosting the official celebrations of World Wetlands Day.
Deputy Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs, Rejoice Mabudafhasi, will lead the 2013 celebrations in Kareedouw on Friday.
She is expected to be accompanied by Eastern Cape Economic Development MEC, Mcebisi Jonas.
World Wetlands Day is an annual event that commemorates the signing of the Convention on Wetlands in February 1971.
The United Nations has designated 2013 as the International Year of Water Cooperation in recognition of the fact that water is critical for sustainable human development.
