More than 80% of textile workers in the Eastern Cape who took part in a strike ballot are in favour of industrial action.
The SA Clothing and Textile Workers Union says an announcement on a country-wide strike will be made next week when the counting of ballots is complete.
Sactwu says of 80.6% of the 1357 workers balloted in the Eastern Cape over the past few weeks were in favour of strike action.
The union says its member in other provinces are also overwhelmingly in favour of a strike.
"We will use Monday and Tuesday next week to mop up balloting at a few outstanding companies and make a formal announcement of the final outcomes and our way forward, at a press Conference to be called next Wednesday morning. Details of the press conference will be announced in due course," the union said in a statement.
The SA Clothing and Textile Workers Union says it began the strike ballot after conciliation failed to resolve the union's wage demands.
