An Eastern Cape taxi driver has been sentenced to a fine of nearly R4000 or 15 months in jail for trying to bribe two provincial traffic officers.
Eastern Cape Transport Department spokesperson, Ncedo Kumbaca, says Yandisa Fulela of Mthatha, was sentenced in the Aliwal North Magistrate's court on Monday.
He had offered two provincial traffic officers R100 rand after they stopped him earlier this month and charged him for not having a valid public driving permit which had expired.
Kumbaca says Fulela pleaded not guilty at an earlier court appearance.
He says MEC, Thandiswa Marawu, has welcomed the court ruling. She also praised the two officers for not giving in to corruption.
