The Democratic Alliance says its Youth Chairperson, Yusuf Cassim, will become the youngest person in South African history to be sworn in as a Member of Parliament at the age of 24.
Cassim who hails from Uitenhage has completed a Bachelors Degree in accounting and is reading towards his masters in Public Administration at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in Port Elizabeth.
Cassim told AlgoaFM News that he is feeling very excited but at the same time feels a great sense of responsibility.
He says while his role in Parliament is yet to be confirmed, his preferred portfolio would be Higher Education.
"We are still to have our first caucus meeting and after we elect our parliamentary leader and parliamentary leadership, the team will then start by consulting with MP's and designate MP's into various portfolios. Of course personally my preference would be Higher Education considering my background as a student leader and a SRC President who served on university councils." says Cassim.
