Eastern Cape police are investigating a case of arson after the administration block of a school in a village in Dutywa was set alight.
Police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha, said that the administration block of the Dinizulu Senior Secondary School at Taleni Village was destroyed in the blaze.
He said the school principal was notified on midnight on Saturday and when he rushed to the school he found that all the teachers and learners files, cleaning materials, tables and chairs as well as books had burned to ashes.
Manatha said initial estimates put the damage at around R1.1m.
Eastern Cape Police Commissioner, Lieutenant-General, Liziwe Ntshinga, has strongly condemned the incident and instructed Dutywa detectives to work around the clock to ensure that perpetrators are brought to book expeditiously.
